List of common problems in stainless steel polishing
2022/10/19

What are the key points to pay attention to in stainless steel polishing?

Abrasive: Fine particles in polishing wax that play a role in cutting and leveling.

Fats: stearic acid, fatty acids, paraffin wax, etc. that serve as lubricants and coolants in polishing wax.

Cutting force: The ability of polishing wax to grind and level the polished workpiece.

2. The general stainless steel polishing process is divided into several steps

The general mechanical polishing process is divided into three steps: rough grinding, medium grinding, and fine grinding.

Rough grinding: It mainly uses sand and abrasive to polish workpieces with relatively rough surfaces, removing macroscopic uneven surfaces.

Intermediate grinding: Further polishing is carried out on the basis of coarse grinding to remove coarse grinding marks. Through this process, the surface of the workpiece gradually becomes smooth and shiny.

Fine polishing: a process of fine polishing to achieve the desired brightness.

3. How to choose the size of the polishing wheel

The motor power determines the size of the polishing wheel, and the motor shaft must be matched with the polishing wheel. Place the polishing wheel in the center of the shaft and tighten it with a wrench. Uniform linear velocity on the surface of the polishing wheel is necessary to achieve the best polishing effect. Therefore, if a larger polishing wheel is used with a smaller motor, the linear velocity will decrease significantly during polishing, which will affect the polishing effect.

4. How to use polishing wheels and polishing wax

The rotation direction of the polishing wheel is towards the operator and sufficient speed has been obtained. Gently press the polishing wax against the edge of the wheel and ensure it is below the horizontal plane of the rotating shaft until the surface is completely covered with the polishing wax. Gently press a clean metal piece against the surface of the polishing wheel for a few seconds to unfold the wax. Repeat several times to evenly cover the surface of the metal part with wax. After the surface is completely covered with wax, the polishing process can be carried out. If necessary, apply polishing wax to the wheel again (it is best to wipe off any remaining wax on the wheel before applying). The wheels used for rough grinding, medium grinding (cutting grinding), and fine grinding (polishing) should be separated and must be separated, otherwise rough particles during the polishing process will scratch the surface of the metal parts.

5. How to clean residual polishing wax

If you want to remove the polishing wax on the surface of the workpiece after mechanical polishing, you can use a specialized oil and wax removal solution. This product has the characteristics of low concentration, fast wax removal speed, low cost, high efficiency, and product neutrality. It is harmless to the workpiece, and the higher the temperature, the higher the concentration, and the better the cleaning ability!
